Yard

YARD גִּזְרָה, H1619, from the verb גָּזַר֒, H1615, “cut, separate”; KJV, “separate place”). 1. Found in Ezekiel’s description of the new Temple (Ezek 41:12-15; 42:1, 10, 13). The yard, one hundred cubits long, contained a large structure which may have been used to keep bullocks and other animals to be sacrificed. The word is also found in Lamentations 4:7 where its meaning is uncertain (“beauty of their form,” RSV; “polishing,” KJV).

2. Unit of measure in John 21:8 used to translate the Gr. “two hundred cubits” (“a hundred yards”).
