Necklace

NECKLACE (רָבִיד, H8054, chain). The word is not found in the KJV of the Bible, but necklaces always have been popular in Bible lands; and there is no doubt that they are referred to in the Scriptures. Several varieties occur. They were worn even around the necks of Midianite camels (Judg 8:26). Some were made of gold (Gen 41:42); some, of strings of jewels (Song of Solomon 1:10). Sometimes they were worn with “pendants” (Isa 3:19), such as “crescents” of gold (Judg 8:26; Isa 3:18), or “rings” (Gen 38:25). In Egypt and Babylon it was the custom to wear a gold chain of office on the neck and breast (Gen 41:42; Dan 5:7, 16, 29).
