Naphish

NAPHISH nā’ fĭsh (נָפִ֖ישׁ). One of Ishmael’s twelve sons (Gen 25:15; 1 Chron 1:31). He was badly defeated by the Israelites on the E of the Jordan (1 Chron 5:19; KJV NEPHISH). His descendants are referred to in Ezra 2:50 as “the sons of Nephisim” (ASV and RSV) or “Nephusim” (KJV and ASVmg.). The parallel passage Nehemiah 7:52 has “Nephushesim” (ASV and RSV) or “Nephishesim” (KJV and ASVmg.). In 1 Esdras 5:31 the KJV and ASV have “Naphisi”; the RSV has “Nephisim.”
