MOST HOLY (קֹ֖דֶשׁ הַקֳּדָשִֽׁים, ἅγια ἁγίων, meaning the holy of the holies or holy of holies). 1. The noun which usually describes the innermost room of the Tabernacle or Temple (Exod 26:34; Heb 9:3; et al.). To intensify words in Heb. they are repeated and/or pluralized. Here both occur.

2. The general area of the Tabernacle and Temple (Num 18:10; et al.).

3. An adjective to describe various accouterments of the Holy of Holies; e.g., the altar (Exod 29:37) or the various offerings (Lev 6:17, 25; 7:1; et al.).

4. In Daniel 9:24 the term occurs in reference to the coming Messiah.
