MOLDING (Heb. זֵר, H2425, circlet, border; a binding, wreath). The word “molding” does not occur in KJV or ASV text, which have CROWN; ASVmg. “rim” or “molding.” A shaped rim around the Ark of the Covenant (Exod 25:11, 24, 25; 37:2) is meant; a similar rim around the altar of incense (Exod 30:3, 4; 37:26, 27) and another rim around the table for the showbread (Exod 37:11, 12 RSV). In all three cases the molding was of pure gold and was ornamental, giving a finished appearance to Ark, altar and table.
