Mildew

MILDEW (יֵרָקﯴן, H3766). A common species of fungus which attacked the crops of Pal., and which was produced by dampness. In OT times it was interpreted as God’s punishment upon the disobedient (Deut 28:22; Amos 4:9; Hag 2:17), and Solomon prayed for deliverance from it (1 Kings 8:37; 2 Chron 6:28). In the Bible it always is mentioned in connection with the opposite condition, “blasting,” produced by the blowing of the hot, dry wind of sirocco (Deut 28:22-24; 1 Kings 8:37; 2 Chron 6:28).
