MELZAR mĕl’ zär (הַמֶּלְצַ֑ר). Either a proper name (KJV) or an official title (ASV, RSV STEWARD), denoting the office of guardian (Dan 1:11, 16). The fact that the word appears each time with the definite article would indicate that it is not the name of a person.
