Me-Jarkon

ME-JARKON mē jär’ kŏn (מֵ֥י הַיַּרְקֹ֖ון, waters of the Jarkon, pale or green waters. A town allotted to the tribe of Dan (Josh 19:40, 46). Perhaps this town received its name from the stream Nahr el-Auja which flows into the Mediterranean a few m. N of Joppa. The ancient Heb. name “green waters” may well reflect the considerable quantity of organic soil which the river carries at certain times and which gives it its greenish appearance.
