MATTOCK măt’ ŏk (מַחֲרֵשָׁה, H4739) (1 Sam 13:20, 21); חֶ֫רֶב, H2995, (2 Chron 34:6); מַעְדֵּר, H5053, (Isa 7:25). A farming implement, with a blade at one end and usually a pick at the other, used to break up the soil. It was esp. used on hills, where vines were often grown.
