LOCKS. The Heb. word for a mechanical device for fastening a door by means of a key is מִנְעָל, H4981, (Neh 3:3, 6, 13, 15; Song of Solomon 5:5). The doors of the ancient Hebrews were secured with locks of wood or iron. The RSV has Bolt instead of the KJV Lock. The following words are used to refer to the hair of the head. מַחְלְפֹ֥ות, “plaits,” e.g. of the long hair of Samson (Judg 16:13, 19). צִיצִת, H7492, the forelock of the head (Ezek 8:3); tassel or fringe (Num 15:38, 39). פֶּ֫רַע֮, H7279, the uncut and disheveled hair of the Nazirite (Num 6:5) or of the priests (Ezek 44:20). קְוֻצּﯴת, H7767, the forelocks or sidelocks of a man’s or woman’s hair (Song of Solomon 5:2, 11).
