DISHON dī’ shŏn (דִּישֹׁ֑ון, דִישָׁ֑ן, דִּשֹׁ֑ן, LXX Δησων). Its meaning may be indicated by occurrence of the common noun, דִּישֹׁ֖ן in a list of clean animals which may be eaten (Deut 14:5). It is tr. in LXX with πυγαργον, which is the Libyan antelope. The RSV trs. “ibex”).

1. A chief of the Horites and fifth son of Seir whose land was appropriated by Esau and his descendants (Gen 36:21, 26, 30; 1 Chron 1:38, 41b).

2. A son of the Horite chief, Anah, and grandson of Seir. He was the brother of Oholibamah, Esau’s wife (Gen 36:25; 1 Chron 1:41a, 42). A comparison of Genesis 36:21-30 with 1 Chronicles 1:38-42 suggests the Dishan in Genesis 36:28 should be read Dishon (son of Anah). The LXX has Πισων.
