Zephaniah 1:11-13

Divine Judgment on the Business Community

¹¹“Wail, you who live in the market district,
    because all of the merchants will be crushed
        and all of their customers^[a] will be eliminated.^[b]
¹²And it will come about that I will search Jerusalem with candles,^[c]
    punishing the self-satisfied and complacent,
who say to themselves,
    ‘The Lord will do neither good nor evil.’
¹³Therefore their possessions will be seized as plunder
    and their homes left in ruins.
They may build houses,
    but they won’t live in them.
They may plant vineyards,
    but they won’t drink their wine.”

¹¹Wail,^(A) you who live in the market district^[a];
    all your merchants will be wiped out,
    all who trade with^[b] silver will be destroyed.^(B)
¹²At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps
    and punish those who are complacent,^(C)
    who are like wine left on its dregs,^(D)
who think, ‘The Lord will do nothing,^(E)
    either good or bad.’^(F)
¹³Their wealth will be plundered,^(G)
    their houses demolished.
Though they build houses,
    they will not live in them;
though they plant vineyards,
    they will not drink the wine.”^(H)
