3 And HaAm thirsted there for mayim; and the people murmured against Moshe, and said, Why is this that thou hast brought us up out of Mitzrayim, to kill me and my banim and my livestock with tzama (thirst)?
4 And Moshe cried unto Hashem, saying, What shall I do with this people? They are almost ready to stone me.
5 And Hashem said unto Moshe, Go on ahead of HaAm, and take with thee Ziknei Yisroel; and thy matteh (staff) wherewith thou struck the Nile, take in thine yad, and go.

New International Version
3 But the people were thirsty(A) for water there, and they grumbled(B) against Moses. They said, “Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die(C) of thirst?”
4 Then Moses cried out to the Lord, “What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone(D) me.”
5 The Lord answered Moses, “Go out in front of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff(E) with which you struck the Nile,(F) and go.
