²⁹And as Isaias foretold: Unless the Lord of Sabaoth had left us a seed, we had been made as Sodom, and we had been like unto Gomorrha.

³⁰What then shall we say? That the Gentiles, who followed not after justice, have attained to justice, even the justice that is of faith.

³¹But Israel, by following after the law of justice, is not come unto the law of justice.

²⁹It is just as Isaiah said previously:

“Unless the Lord Almighty^(A)
had left us descendants,
we would have become like Sodom,
we would have been like Gomorrah.”^[a]^(B)

Israel’s Unbelief

³⁰What then shall we say?^(C) That the Gentiles, who did not pursue righteousness, have obtained it, a righteousness that is by faith;^(D) ³¹but the people of Israel, who pursued the law as the way of righteousness,^(E) have not attained their goal.^(F)
