7 And when he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, Come[a]. 8 And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death; and Hades followed with him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with [b]death, and by the wild beasts of the earth.
9 And when he opened the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of them that had been slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:

7 When the Lamb opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature(A) say, “Come!” 8 I looked, and there before me was a pale horse!(B) Its rider was named Death, and Hades(C) was following close behind him. They were given power over a fourth of the earth to kill by sword, famine and plague, and by the wild beasts of the earth.(D)
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under(E) the altar(F) the souls of those who had been slain(G) because of the word of God(H) and the testimony they had maintained.
