¹⁵ And God sent the angel to Jerusalem to destroy it, but as he was about to destroy it, the Lord saw, and he ^(A)relented from the calamity. And he said to the angel who was working destruction, “It is enough; now stay your hand.” And the angel of the Lord was standing by the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

⁸ and if that nation, concerning which I have spoken, ^(A)turns from its evil, ^(B)I will relent of the disaster that I intended to do to it.

¹³ Now therefore ^(A)mend your ways and your deeds, ^(B)and obey the voice of the Lord your God, ^(C)and the Lord will relent of the disaster that he has pronounced against you.

¹⁵ Only know for certain that if you put me to death, ^(A)you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves and upon this city and its inhabitants, for in truth the Lord sent me to you to speak all these words in your ears.”

¹⁹ Did Hezekiah king of Judah and all Judah put him to death? ^(A)Did he not fear the Lord and entreat the favour of the Lord, ^(B)and did not the Lord relent of the disaster that he had pronounced against them? ^(C)But we are about to bring great disaster upon ourselves.”

¹⁰ When God saw what they did, ^(A)how they turned from their evil way, ^(B)God relented of the disaster that he had said he would do to them, and he did not do it.

² And he prayed to the Lord and said, “O Lord, is not this what I said when I was yet in my country? ^(A)That is why I made haste to flee to Tarshish; for I knew that you are a ^(B)gracious God and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love, and ^(C)relenting from disaster.
