    ‘Now I will do something!
I know the cruel things that wicked people do to poor people.

Footnotes

  1. 12:6 People dig silver from the ground. They use a hot fire to make it clean and pure. It is then very beautiful and of great value. David is saying that God's words are also like this. We can trust that he will do what he says.

“Because the poor are plundered(A) and the needy groan,(B)
I will now arise,(C)” says the Lord.
“I will protect them(D) from those who malign them.”
And the words of the Lord are flawless,(E)
    like silver purified(F) in a crucible,(G)
    like gold[a] refined seven times.

You, Lord, will keep the needy safe(H)
and will protect us forever from the wicked,(I)
