²⁸They yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor^(A)
and ate sacrifices offered to lifeless gods;

²⁸They joined themselves also unto Baalpeor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.

²⁹they aroused the Lord’s anger^(A) by their wicked deeds,^(B)
and a plague^(C) broke out among them.

²⁹Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
