(Psalms 107–150)

Psalm 107

Thanksgiving for God’s Deliverance

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his faithful love endures forever.(A)
Let the redeemed of the Lord proclaim
that he has redeemed them from the power of the foe(B)
and has gathered them from the lands—
from the east and the west,
from the north and the south.(C)

Some wandered in the desolate wilderness,
finding no way to a city where they could live.(D)
They were hungry and thirsty;
their spirits failed[a] within them.(E)
Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he rescued them from their distress.(F)
He led them by the right path
to go to a city where they could live.(G)
Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(H)
For he has satisfied the thirsty
and filled the hungry with good things.(I)

10 Others sat in darkness and gloom[b]
prisoners in cruel chains(J)
11 because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the counsel of the Most High.(K)
12 He broke their spirits[c] with hard labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.(L)
13 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he saved them from their distress.(M)
14 He brought them out of darkness and gloom
and broke their chains apart.(N)
15 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(O)
16 For he has broken down the bronze gates
and cut through the iron bars.(P)

17 Fools suffered affliction
because of their rebellious ways and their iniquities.(Q)
18 They loathed all food
and came near the gates of death.(R)
19 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble;
he saved them from their distress.(S)
20 He sent his word and healed them;
he rescued them from their traps.
21 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(T)
22 Let them offer thanksgiving sacrifices
and announce his works with shouts of joy.(U)

23 Others went to sea in ships,
conducting trade on the vast water.(V)
24 They saw the Lord’s works,
his wondrous works in the deep.(W)
25 He spoke and raised a stormy wind
that stirred up the waves of the sea.[d](X)
26 Rising up to the sky, sinking down to the depths,
their courage[e] melting away in anguish,(Y)
27 they reeled and staggered like a drunkard,
and all their skill was useless.(Z)
28 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.(AA)
29 He stilled the storm to a whisper,
and the waves of the sea were hushed.(AB)
30 They rejoiced when the waves grew quiet.
Then he guided them to the harbor they longed for.(AC)
31 Let them give thanks to the Lord
for his faithful love
and his wondrous works for all humanity.(AD)
32 Let them exalt him in the assembly of the people
and praise him in the council of the elders.(AE)

33 He turns rivers into desert,
springs into thirsty ground,(AF)
34 and fruitful land into salty wasteland,
because of the wickedness of its inhabitants.(AG)
35 He turns a desert into a pool,
dry land into springs.(AH)
36 He causes the hungry to settle there,
and they establish a city where they can live.(AI)
37 They sow fields and plant vineyards
that yield a fruitful harvest.(AJ)
38 He blesses them, and they multiply greatly;(AK)
he does not let their livestock decrease.(AL)

39 When they are diminished and are humbled
by cruel oppression and sorrow,(AM)
40 he pours contempt on nobles(AN)
and makes them wander in a trackless wasteland.(AO)
41 But he lifts the needy out of their suffering(AP)
and makes their families multiply like flocks.(AQ)
42 The upright see it and rejoice,(AR)
and all injustice shuts its mouth.(AS)

43 Let whoever is wise pay attention to these things
and consider the Lord’s acts of faithful love.(AT)

Psalm 108

A Plea for Victory

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart is confident, God;
I will sing; I will sing praises
with the whole of my being.[f](AU)
Wake up, harp and lyre!
I will wake up the dawn.(AV)
I will praise you, Lord, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.(AW)
For your faithful love is higher than the heavens,
and your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.(AX)
God, be exalted above the heavens,(AY)
and let your glory be over the whole earth.(AZ)
Save with your right hand and answer me
so that those you love may be rescued.(BA)

God has spoken in his sanctuary:[g]
“I will celebrate!
I will divide up Shechem.(BB)
I will apportion the Valley of Succoth.(BC)
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine,
and Ephraim is my helmet;(BD)
Judah is my scepter.(BE)
Moab is my washbasin;(BF)
I throw my sandal on Edom.(BG)
I shout in triumph over Philistia.”(BH)

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
Who will lead me to Edom?(BI)
11 God, haven’t you rejected us?
God, you do not march out with our armies.(BJ)
12 Give us aid against the foe,
for human help is worthless.(BK)
13 With God we will perform valiantly;(BL)
he will trample our foes.(BM)

Psalm 109

Prayer against an Enemy

For the choir director. A psalm of David.

God of my praise, do not be silent.(BN)
For wicked and deceitful mouths open against me;
they speak against me with lying tongues.(BO)
They surround me with hateful words
and attack me without cause.(BP)
In return for my love they accuse me,
but I continue to pray.[h](BQ)
They repay me evil for good,
and hatred for my love.(BR)

Set a wicked person over him;
let an accuser[i] stand at his right hand.(BS)
When he is judged, let him be found guilty,
and let his prayer be counted as sin.(BT)
Let his days be few;
let another take over his position.(BU)
Let his children be fatherless
and his wife a widow.(BV)
10 Let his children wander as beggars,
searching for food far[j] from their demolished homes.(BW)
11 Let a creditor seize all he has;
let strangers plunder what he has worked for.(BX)
12 Let no one show him kindness,
and let no one be gracious to his fatherless children.(BY)
13 Let the line of his descendants be cut off;
let their name be blotted out in the next generation.(BZ)
14 Let the iniquity of his fathers
be remembered before the Lord,(CA)
and do not let his mother’s sin be blotted out.(CB)
15 Let their sins[k] always remain before the Lord,
and let him remove[l] all memory of them from the earth.(CC)

16 For he did not think to show kindness,
but pursued the suffering, needy, and brokenhearted
in order to put them to death.(CD)
17 He loved cursing—let it fall on him;
he took no delight in blessing—let it be far from him.(CE)
18 He wore cursing like his coat—
let it enter his body like water
and go into his bones like oil.(CF)
19 Let it be like a robe he wraps around himself,
like a belt he always wears.(CG)
20 Let this be the Lord’s payment to my accusers,
to those who speak evil against me.(CH)

21 But you, Lord, my Lord,
deal kindly with me for your name’s sake;(CI)
because your faithful love is good, rescue me.(CJ)
22 For I am suffering and needy;(CK)
my heart is wounded within me.(CL)
23 I fade away like a lengthening shadow;(CM)
I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees are weak from fasting,
and my body is emaciated.[m](CN)
25 I have become an object of ridicule to my accusers;[n]
when they see me, they shake their heads in scorn.(CO)

26 Help me, Lord my God;
save me according to your faithful love(CP)
27 so they may know that this is your hand
and that you, Lord, have done it.(CQ)
28 Though they curse, you will bless.
When they rise up, they will be put to shame,
but your servant will rejoice.(CR)
29 My accusers will be clothed with disgrace;
they will wear their shame like a cloak.(CS)
30 I will fervently thank the Lord with my mouth;
I will praise him in the presence of many.(CT)
31 For he stands at the right hand of the needy
to save him from those who would condemn him.(CU)

Your people will volunteer

In my distress I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.(QQ)
Lord, rescue me from lying lips
and a deceitful tongue.”(QR)

What will he give you,
and what will he do to you,

A warrior’s sharp arrows

I lift my eyes toward the mountains.
Where will my help come from?(QY)
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.(QZ)

He will not allow your foot to slip;
your Protector will not slumber.(RA)
Indeed, the Protector of Israel
does not slumber or sleep.(RB)

The Lord protects you;
the Lord is a shelter right by your side.[ar](RC)
The sun will not strike you by day

Psalm 122

A Prayer for Jerusalem

A song of ascents. Of David.

I rejoiced with those who said to me,
“Let’s go to the house of the Lord.”(RG)
Our feet were standing
within your gates, Jerusalem(RH)

Jerusalem, built as a city should be,
solidly united,(RI)
where the tribes, the Lord’s tribes, go up
to give thanks to the name of the Lord.(RJ)
(This is an ordinance for Israel.(RK))
There, thrones for judgment are placed,
thrones of the house of David.(RL)

Pray for the well-being[as] of Jerusalem:
“May those who love you be secure;(RM)
may there be peace within your walls,
security within your fortresses.”(RN)
Because of my brothers and friends,
I will say, “May peace be in you.”[at](RO)
Because of the house of the Lord our God,
I will pursue your prosperity.(RP)

Psalm 123

Looking for God’s Favor

A song of ascents.

I lift my eyes to you,
the one enthroned in heaven.(RQ)
Like a servant’s eyes on his master’s hand,
like a servant girl’s eyes on her mistress’s hand,
so our eyes are on the Lord our God
until he shows us favor.(RR)

Show us favor, Lord, show us favor,
for we’ve had more than enough contempt.(RS)
We’ve had more than enough
scorn from the arrogant
and contempt from the proud.(RT)

Psalm 124

The Lord Is on Our Side

A song of ascents. Of David.

If the Lord had not been on our side—
let Israel say—
if the Lord had not been on our side(RU)
when people attacked us,(RV)
then they would have swallowed us alive
in their burning anger against us.(RW)
Then the water would have engulfed us;
the torrent would have swept over us;
the raging water would have swept over us.(RX)

Blessed be the Lord,
who has not let us be ripped apart by their teeth.(RY)
We have escaped like a bird from the hunter’s net;
the net is torn, and we have escaped.(RZ)
Our help is in the name of the Lord,

It cannot be shaken; it remains forever.(SB)
The mountains surround Jerusalem
and the Lord surrounds his people,
both now and forever.(SC)

The scepter of the wicked will not remain
over the land allotted to the righteous,
so that the righteous will not apply their hands to injustice.(SD)

Psalm 126

Zion’s Restoration

A song of ascents.

When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,[au]
we were like those who dream.(SH)
Our mouths were filled with laughter then,(SI)
and our tongues with shouts of joy.(SJ)
Then they said among the nations,
“The Lord has done great things for them.”(SK)
The Lord had done great things for us;
we were joyful.(SL)

Restore our fortunes,[av] Lord,
like watercourses in the Negev.(SM)
Those who sow in tears
will reap with shouts of joy.(SN)
Though one goes along weeping,
carrying the bag of seed,
he will surely come back with shouts of joy,
carrying his sheaves.(SO)

Psalm 127

The Blessing of the Lord

A song of ascents. Of Solomon.

Unless the Lord builds a house,
its builders labor over it in vain;(SP)
unless the Lord watches over a city,
the watchman stays alert in vain.(SQ)
In vain you get up early and stay up late,
working hard to have enough food—
yes, he gives sleep to the one he loves.[aw](SR)

Sons are indeed a heritage from the Lord,
offspring, a reward.(SS)

are the sons born in one’s youth.(ST)
Happy is the man who has filled his quiver with them.(SU)
They will never be put to shame
when they speak with their enemies at the city gate.(SV)

Psalm 128

Blessings for Those Who Fear God

How happy is everyone who fears the Lord,
who walks in his ways!(SW)
You will surely eat
what your hands have worked for.(SX)
You will be happy,
and it will go well for you.(SY)
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine
within your house,
your children, like young olive trees
around your table.(SZ)
In this very way
the man who fears the Lord
will be blessed.(TA)

May the Lord bless you from Zion,
so that you will see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life(TB)
and will see your children’s children!
Peace be with Israel.(TC)

Psalm 129

Protection of the Oppressed

A song of ascents.

Since my youth they have often attacked me—
let Israel say—
since my youth they have often attacked me,
but they have not prevailed against me.(TD)
Plowmen plowed over my back;
they made their furrows long.(TE)
The Lord is righteous;
he has cut the ropes of the wicked.(TF)

Let all who hate Zion
be driven back in disgrace.(TG)
Let them be like grass on the rooftops,
which withers before it grows up[ax](TH)
and can’t even fill the hands of the reaper
or the arms of the one who binds sheaves.(TI)
Then none who pass by will say,
“May the Lord’s blessing be on you.
We bless you in the name of the Lord.”(TJ)

Psalm 130

Awaiting Redemption

A song of ascents.

Out of the depths I call to you, Lord!(TK)
Lord, listen to my voice;
let your ears be attentive
to my cry for help.(TL)

Lord, if you kept an account of iniquities,
Lord, who could stand?(TM)
But with you there is forgiveness,
so that you may be revered.(TN)

I wait for the Lord; I wait
and put my hope in his word.(TO)
I wait for the Lord
more than watchmen for the morning—
more than watchmen for the morning.(TP)

Israel, put your hope in the Lord.(TQ)
For there is faithful love with the Lord,
and with him is redemption in abundance.(TR)
And he will redeem Israel
from all its iniquities.(TS)

Psalm 131

A Childlike Spirit

A song of ascents. Of David.

Lord, my heart is not proud;
my eyes are not haughty.(TT)
I do not get involved with things
too great or too wondrous for me.(TU)
Instead, I have calmed and quieted my soul
like a weaned child with its mother;
my soul is like a weaned child.(TV)

Israel, put your hope in the Lord,
both now and forever.(TW)

Psalm 132

David and Zion Chosen

A song of ascents.

Lord, remember David
and all the hardships he endured,(TX)
and how he swore an oath to the Lord,
making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob:(TY)
“I will not enter my house
or get into my bed,
I will not allow my eyes to sleep
or my eyelids to slumber(TZ)
until I find a place for the Lord,
a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob.”(UA)

We heard of the ark in Ephrathah;[ay](UB)
we found it in the fields of Jaar.[az](UC)
Let’s go to his dwelling place;
let’s worship at his footstool.(UD)
Rise up, Lord, come to your resting place,
you and your powerful ark.(UE)
May your priests be clothed with righteousness,
and may your faithful people shout for joy.(UF)
10 For the sake of your servant David,
do not reject your anointed one.[ba](UG)

11 The Lord swore an oath to David,
a promise he will not abandon:
“I will set one of your offspring[bb]
on your throne.(UH)
12 If your sons keep my covenant
and my decrees that I will teach them,
their sons will also sit on your throne forever.”(UI)

13 For the Lord has chosen Zion;
he has desired it for his home:(UJ)
14 “This is my resting place forever;
I will make my home here
because I have desired it.(UK)
15 I will abundantly bless its food;
I will satisfy its needy with bread.(UL)
16 I will clothe its priests with salvation,
and its faithful people will shout for joy.(UM)
17 There I will make a horn grow for David;(UN)
I have prepared a lamp[bc] for my anointed one.(UO)
18 I will clothe his enemies with shame,(UP)
but the crown he wears[bd] will be glorious.”(UQ)

Psalm 133

Living in Harmony

A song of ascents. Of David.

How delightfully good
when brothers live together in harmony!(UR)
It is like fine oil on the head,
running down on the beard,
running down Aaron’s beard
onto his robes.(US)
It is like the dew of Hermon[be]
falling on the mountains of Zion.(UT)
For there the Lord has appointed the blessing—
life forevermore.(UU)

Psalm 134

Call to Evening Worship

A song of ascents.

Now bless the Lord,
all you servants of the Lord
who stand in the Lord’s house at night!(UV)
Lift up your hands in the holy place
and bless the Lord!(UW)

May the Lord,
Maker of heaven and earth,
bless you from Zion.(UX)

Psalm 135

The Lord Is Great

Hallelujah!
Praise the name of the Lord.
Give praise, you servants of the Lord(UY)
who stand in the house of the Lord,
in the courts of the house of our God.(UZ)
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
sing praise to his name, for it is delightful.(VA)
For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
Israel as his treasured possession.(VB)

For I know that the Lord is great;
our Lord is greater than all gods.(VC)
The Lord does whatever he pleases
in heaven and on earth,
in the seas and all the depths.(VD)
He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth.
He makes lightning for the rain
and brings the wind from his storehouses.(VE)

He struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
both people and animals.(VF)
He sent signs and wonders against you, Egypt,
against Pharaoh and all his officials.(VG)
10 He struck down many nations
and slaughtered mighty kings:(VH)
11 Sihon king of the Amorites,
Og king of Bashan,
and all the kings of Canaan.(VI)
12 He gave their land as an inheritance,
an inheritance to his people Israel.(VJ)

13 Lord, your name endures forever,
your reputation, Lord,
through all generations.(VK)
14 For the Lord will vindicate his people
and have compassion on his servants.(VL)

15 The idols of the nations are of silver and gold,
made by human hands.(VM)
16 They have mouths but cannot speak,(VN)
eyes, but cannot see.
17 They have ears but cannot hear;
indeed, there is no breath in their mouths.(VO)

House of Aaron, bless the Lord!(VR)

BOOK V

Psalms 107–150

Psalm 107

Give thanks to the Lord,(A) for he is good;(B)
    his love endures forever.

Let the redeemed(C) of the Lord tell their story—
    those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
those he gathered(D) from the lands,
    from east and west, from north and south.[a]

Some wandered in desert(E) wastelands,
    finding no way to a city(F) where they could settle.
They were hungry(G) and thirsty,(H)
    and their lives ebbed away.
Then they cried out(I) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he delivered them from their distress.
He led them by a straight way(J)
    to a city(K) where they could settle.
Let them give thanks(L) to the Lord for his unfailing love(M)
    and his wonderful deeds(N) for mankind,
for he satisfies(O) the thirsty
    and fills the hungry with good things.(P)

10 Some sat in darkness,(Q) in utter darkness,
    prisoners suffering(R) in iron chains,(S)
11 because they rebelled(T) against God’s commands
    and despised(U) the plans(V) of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
    they stumbled, and there was no one to help.(W)
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(X) from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness,(Y) the utter darkness,(Z)
    and broke away their chains.(AA)
15 Let them give thanks(AB) to the Lord for his unfailing love(AC)
    and his wonderful deeds(AD) for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
    and cuts through bars of iron.

17 Some became fools(AE) through their rebellious ways(AF)
    and suffered affliction(AG) because of their iniquities.
18 They loathed all food(AH)
    and drew near the gates of death.(AI)
19 Then they cried(AJ) to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he saved them(AK) from their distress.
20 He sent out his word(AL) and healed them;(AM)
    he rescued(AN) them from the grave.(AO)
21 Let them give thanks(AP) to the Lord for his unfailing love(AQ)
    and his wonderful deeds(AR) for mankind.
22 Let them sacrifice thank offerings(AS)
    and tell of his works(AT) with songs of joy.(AU)

23 Some went out on the sea(AV) in ships;(AW)
    they were merchants on the mighty waters.
24 They saw the works of the Lord,(AX)
    his wonderful deeds in the deep.
25 For he spoke(AY) and stirred up a tempest(AZ)
    that lifted high the waves.(BA)
26 They mounted up to the heavens and went down to the depths;
    in their peril(BB) their courage melted(BC) away.
27 They reeled(BD) and staggered like drunkards;
    they were at their wits’ end.
28 Then they cried(BE) out to the Lord in their trouble,
    and he brought them out of their distress.(BF)
29 He stilled the storm(BG) to a whisper;
    the waves(BH) of the sea[b] were hushed.(BI)
30 They were glad when it grew calm,
    and he guided them(BJ) to their desired haven.
31 Let them give thanks(BK) to the Lord for his unfailing love(BL)
    and his wonderful deeds(BM) for mankind.
32 Let them exalt(BN) him in the assembly(BO) of the people
    and praise him in the council of the elders.

33 He turned rivers into a desert,(BP)
    flowing springs(BQ) into thirsty ground,
34 and fruitful land into a salt waste,(BR)
    because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
35 He turned the desert into pools of water(BS)
    and the parched ground into flowing springs;(BT)
36 there he brought the hungry to live,
    and they founded a city where they could settle.
37 They sowed fields and planted vineyards(BU)
    that yielded a fruitful harvest;
38 he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,(BV)
    and he did not let their herds diminish.(BW)

39 Then their numbers decreased,(BX) and they were humbled(BY)
    by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
40 he who pours contempt on nobles(BZ)
    made them wander in a trackless waste.(CA)
41 But he lifted the needy(CB) out of their affliction
    and increased their families like flocks.(CC)

Psalm 108[c](CH)(CI)

A song. A psalm of David.

My heart, O God, is steadfast;(CJ)
    I will sing(CK) and make music with all my soul.
Awake, harp and lyre!(CL)
    I will awaken the dawn.
I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
    I will sing of you among the peoples.
For great is your love,(CM) higher than the heavens;
    your faithfulness(CN) reaches to the skies.(CO)
Be exalted, O God, above the heavens;(CP)
    let your glory be over all the earth.(CQ)

Save us and help us with your right hand,(CR)
    that those you love may be delivered.
God has spoken(CS) from his sanctuary:(CT)
    “In triumph I will parcel out Shechem(CU)
    and measure off the Valley of Sukkoth.(CV)
Gilead is mine, Manasseh is mine;
    Ephraim is my helmet,
    Judah(CW) is my scepter.
Moab(CX) is my washbasin,
    on Edom(CY) I toss my sandal;
    over Philistia(CZ) I shout in triumph.”

10 Who will bring me to the fortified city?
    Who will lead me to Edom?
11 Is it not you, God, you who have rejected us
    and no longer go out with our armies?(DA)
12 Give us aid against the enemy,
    for human help is worthless.(DB)
13 With God we will gain the victory,
    and he will trample down(DC) our enemies.

Psalm 109

For the director of music. Of David. A psalm.

My God, whom I praise,(DD)
    do not remain silent,(DE)
for people who are wicked and deceitful(DF)
    have opened their mouths against me;
    they have spoken against me with lying tongues.(DG)
With words of hatred(DH) they surround me;
    they attack me without cause.(DI)
In return for my friendship they accuse me,
    but I am a man of prayer.(DJ)
They repay me evil for good,(DK)
    and hatred for my friendship.

Appoint someone evil to oppose my enemy;
    let an accuser(DL) stand at his right hand.
When he is tried, let him be found guilty,(DM)
    and may his prayers condemn(DN) him.
May his days be few;(DO)
    may another take his place(DP) of leadership.
May his children be fatherless
    and his wife a widow.(DQ)
10 May his children be wandering beggars;(DR)
    may they be driven[d] from their ruined homes.
11 May a creditor(DS) seize all he has;
    may strangers plunder(DT) the fruits of his labor.(DU)
12 May no one extend kindness to him
    or take pity(DV) on his fatherless children.
13 May his descendants be cut off,(DW)
    their names blotted out(DX) from the next generation.
14 May the iniquity of his fathers(DY) be remembered before the Lord;
    may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
15 May their sins always remain before(DZ) the Lord,
    that he may blot out their name(EA) from the earth.

16 For he never thought of doing a kindness,
    but hounded to death the poor
    and the needy(EB) and the brokenhearted.(EC)
17 He loved to pronounce a curse—
    may it come back on him.(ED)
He found no pleasure in blessing—
    may it be far from him.
18 He wore cursing(EE) as his garment;
    it entered into his body like water,(EF)
    into his bones like oil.
19 May it be like a cloak wrapped(EG) about him,
    like a belt tied forever around him.
20 May this be the Lord’s payment(EH) to my accusers,
    to those who speak evil(EI) of me.

21 But you, Sovereign Lord,
    help me for your name’s sake;(EJ)
    out of the goodness of your love,(EK) deliver me.(EL)
22 For I am poor and needy,
    and my heart is wounded within me.
23 I fade away like an evening shadow;(EM)
    I am shaken off like a locust.
24 My knees give(EN) way from fasting;(EO)
    my body is thin and gaunt.(EP)
25 I am an object of scorn(EQ) to my accusers;
    when they see me, they shake their heads.(ER)

26 Help me,(ES) Lord my God;
    save me according to your unfailing love.
27 Let them know(ET) that it is your hand,
    that you, Lord, have done it.
28 While they curse,(EU) may you bless;
    may those who attack me be put to shame,
    but may your servant rejoice.(EV)
29 May my accusers be clothed with disgrace
    and wrapped in shame(EW) as in a cloak.

30 With my mouth I will greatly extol the Lord;
    in the great throng(EX) of worshipers I will praise him.
31 For he stands at the right hand(EY) of the needy,
    to save their lives from those who would condemn them.

They have freely scattered their gifts to the poor,(HD)
    their righteousness endures(HE) forever;
    their horn[m] will be lifted(HF) high in honor.

    they will gnash their teeth(HH) and waste away;(HI)
    the longings of the wicked will come to nothing.(HJ)

    his glory above the heavens.(HQ)
Who is like the Lord our God,(HR)
    the One who sits enthroned(HS) on high,(HT)

    on the heavens and the earth?

He raises the poor(HV) from the dust
    and lifts the needy(HW) from the ash heap;
he seats them(HX) with princes,
    with the princes of his people.
He settles the childless(HY) woman in her home
    as a happy mother of children.

Praise the Lord.
