Proverbs 22:3-5

³A prudent man foresees the difficulties ahead and prepares for them; the simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.

⁴True humility and respect for the Lord lead a man to riches, honor, and long life.

⁵The rebel walks a thorny, treacherous road; the man who values his soul will stay away.

Proverbs 22:3-5

New International Version

³The prudent see danger and take refuge,^(A)
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.^(B)

⁴Humility is the fear of the Lord;
its wages are riches and honor^(C) and life.^(D)

⁵In the paths of the wicked are snares and pitfalls,^(E)
but those who would preserve their life stay far from them.

³A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.

⁴By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, and honour, and life.

⁵Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
