22 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold.

²The rich and poor meet together; the Lord is the Maker of them all.^(A)

³A prudent man sees the evil and hides himself, but the simple pass on and are punished [with suffering].

22 A good name is more desirable than great riches;
to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.^(A)

²Rich and poor have this in common:
The Lord is the Maker of them all.^(B)

³The prudent see danger and take refuge,^(C)
but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.^(D)
