Proverbs 16:17-19

¹⁷A good person stays away from evil.
A person who watches what he does protects his life.

¹⁸Pride leads to destruction.
A proud attitude brings ruin.

¹⁹It is better not to be proud and to be with those who suffer
than to share stolen property with proud people.

¹⁷The highway of the upright avoids evil;
those who guard their ways preserve their lives.^(A)

¹⁸Pride^(B) goes before destruction,
a haughty spirit^(C) before a fall.^(D)

¹⁹Better to be lowly in spirit along with the oppressed
than to share plunder with the proud.
