For the term of the nazirite promise, no razor may be used on the head until the period of dedication to the Lord is fulfilled. The person is to be holy, letting his or her hair grow untrimmed. The period of dedication to the Lord also requires that the person not go near a corpse, whether father, mother, brother, or sister. Nazirites should not defile themselves because of the death of these people, because they bear the sign of their dedication to God on their heads.

“‘During the entire period of their Nazirite vow, no razor(A) may be used on their head.(B) They must be holy until the period of their dedication to the Lord is over; they must let their hair grow long.

“‘Throughout the period of their dedication to the Lord, the Nazirite must not go near a dead body.(C) Even if their own father or mother or brother or sister dies, they must not make themselves ceremonially unclean(D) on account of them, because the symbol of their dedication to God is on their head.
