32 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance shall remain with us beyond the Jordan.”

33 And (A)Moses gave to them, to the people of Gad and to the people of Reuben and to the half-tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land and its cities with their territories, the cities of the land throughout the country. 34 And the people of Gad built (B)Dibon, (C)Ataroth, (D)Aroer, 35 Atroth-shophan, (E)Jazer, Jogbehah, 36 (F)Beth-nimrah and Beth-haran, (G)fortified cities, and folds for sheep. 37 And the people of Reuben built (H)Heshbon, (I)Elealeh, Kiriathaim, 38 (J)Nebo, and (K)Baal-meon ((L)their names were changed), and (M)Sibmah. And they gave other names to the cities that they built.

34 The Gadites built up Dibon, Ataroth, Aroer,(H) 35 Atroth Shophan, Jazer,(I) Jogbehah,(J) 36 Beth Nimrah(K) and Beth Haran as fortified cities, and built pens for their flocks.(L) 37 And the Reubenites rebuilt Heshbon,(M) Elealeh(N) and Kiriathaim,(O) 38 as well as Nebo(P) and Baal Meon (these names were changed) and Sibmah.(Q) They gave names to the cities they rebuilt.

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, (A)which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastwards, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them: (B)from Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the middle of the valley, and (C)all the tableland of Medeba as far as Dibon; 10 (D)and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the boundary of the Ammonites; 11 and Gilead, and the (E)region of the Geshurites and Maacathites, and all Mount Hermon, and (F)all Bashan to Salecah; 12 (G)all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei (he alone was left of (H)the remnant of the Rephaim); (I)these Moses had struck and driven out. 13 (J)Yet the people of Israel did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites, but Geshur and Maacath dwell in the midst of Israel to this day.

Division of the Land East of the Jordan

The other half of Manasseh,[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites had received the inheritance that Moses had given them east of the Jordan, as he, the servant of the Lord, had assigned(A) it to them.(B)

It extended from Aroer(C) on the rim of the Arnon Gorge, and from the town in the middle of the gorge, and included the whole plateau(D) of Medeba as far as Dibon,(E) 10 and all the towns of Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon,(F) out to the border of the Ammonites.(G) 11 It also included Gilead,(H) the territory of the people of Geshur and Maakah, all of Mount Hermon and all Bashan as far as Salekah(I) 12 that is, the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan,(J) who had reigned in Ashtaroth(K) and Edrei.(L) (He was the last of the Rephaites.(M)) Moses had defeated them and taken over their land.(N) 13 But the Israelites did not drive out the people of Geshur(O) and Maakah,(P) so they continue to live among the Israelites to this day.(Q)
