31 The Gadites and Reubenites answered, “Your servants will do what the Lord has said.(A) 32 We will cross over before the Lord into Canaan armed,(B) but the property we inherit will be on this side of the Jordan.(C)

12 But to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh,(A) Joshua said, 13 “Remember the command that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you after he said, ‘The Lord your God will give you rest(B) by giving you this land.’ 14 Your wives,(C) your children and your livestock may stay in the land(D) that Moses gave you east of the Jordan, but all your fighting men, ready for battle,(E) must cross over ahead of your fellow Israelites.(F) You are to help them 15 until the Lord gives them rest, as he has done for you, and until they too have taken possession of the land the Lord your God is giving them. After that, you may go back and occupy your own land, which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you east of the Jordan toward the sunrise.”(G)

18 The Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh had 44,760 men ready for military service(A)—able-bodied men who could handle shield and sword, who could use a bow, and who were trained for battle. 19 They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur,(B) Naphish and Nodab. 20 They were helped(C) in fighting them, and God delivered the Hagrites and all their allies into their hands, because they cried(D) out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted(E) in him. 21 They seized the livestock of the Hagrites—fifty thousand camels, two hundred fifty thousand sheep and two thousand donkeys. They also took one hundred thousand people captive, 22 and many others fell slain, because the battle(F) was God’s. And they occupied the land until the exile.(G)
