10 Then he and his brother gathered all the people in front of the rock.

Moses (to the Israelites): Listen up, you rebellious lot. Should we get water for you from this rock?

11 And as he spoke, Moses raised his hand and hit the rock—once, twice—and immediately the water came gushing out. All drank their fill, people and animals alike. 12 But the Eternal One scolded Moses and Aaron for their actions.

Eternal One: Because you didn’t trust Me and treat Me as holy before the Israelites, you will not lead this group into the land I have given them.

10 He and Aaron gathered the assembly together(A) in front of the rock and Moses said to them, “Listen, you rebels, must we bring you water out of this rock?”(B) 11 Then Moses raised his arm and struck the rock twice with his staff. Water(C) gushed out, and the community and their livestock drank.

12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy(D) in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.”(E)
