²³ It is the Levites who are to do the work at the tent of meeting and bear the responsibility for any offenses they commit against it. This is a lasting ordinance^(A) for the generations to come.^(B) They will receive no inheritance^(C) among the Israelites.^{(D) 24} Instead, I give to the Levites as their inheritance the tithes that the Israelites present as an offering to the Lord.^(E) That is why I said concerning them: ‘They will have no inheritance among the Israelites.’”

Offerings for Priests and Levites

18 The Levitical^(A) priests—indeed, the whole tribe of Levi—are to have no allotment or inheritance with Israel. They shall live on the food offerings^(B) presented to the Lord, for that is their inheritance.^{(C) 2} They shall have no inheritance among their fellow Israelites; the Lord is their inheritance,^(D) as he promised them.^(E)
