Israel Struck Down
39 Then Moses spoke (A)these words to all the sons of Israel, and (B)the people mourned greatly. 40 In the morning, however, they rose up early and went up to the [a]ridge of the hill country, saying, “(C)Here we are; we will go up to the place which Yahweh has promised because we have indeed sinned.” 41 But Moses said, “(D)Why then do you trespass against the [b]command of Yahweh, when it will not succeed?

39 When Moses reported this(A) to all the Israelites, they mourned(B) bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country,(C) saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!(D)”
41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed!(E)
