39 Moses spoke the Lord’s words to all the Israelites, and the people mourned greatly. 40 They got up early in the morning and went up to the ridge of the hill country, saying, “Look, here we are; we have indeed sinned, but we will go up to the place which the Lord has promised.” 41 But Moses said, “Why then are you transgressing the commandment of the Lord, when it will not succeed?

39 When Moses reported this(A) to all the Israelites, they mourned(B) bitterly. 40 Early the next morning they set out for the highest point in the hill country,(C) saying, “Now we are ready to go up to the land the Lord promised. Surely we have sinned!(D)”

41 But Moses said, “Why are you disobeying the Lord’s command? This will not succeed!(E)
