Numbers 14:16-18

16 Because the Lord was not able to bring this people into the land which He swore to give to them, therefore He has slain them in the wilderness.
17 And now, I pray You, let the power of my Lord be great, as You have promised, saying,
18 The Lord is long-suffering and slow to anger, and abundant in mercy and loving-kindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, upon the third and fourth generation.(A)

16 ‘The Lord was not able to bring these people into the land he promised them on oath,(A) so he slaughtered them in the wilderness.’(B)
17 “Now may the Lord’s strength be displayed, just as you have declared: 18 ‘The Lord is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion.(C) Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation.’(D)
