15 “You gave them bread from heaven when they were hungry and water from the rock when they were thirsty. You commanded them to go and take possession of the land you had sworn to give them.
16 “But our ancestors were proud and stubborn, and they paid no attention to your commands. 17 They refused to obey and did not remember the miracles you had done for them. Instead, they became stubborn and appointed a leader to take them back to their slavery in Egypt.[a] But you are a God of forgiveness, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love. You did not abandon them,

15 In their hunger you gave them bread from heaven(A) and in their thirst you brought them water from the rock;(B) you told them to go in and take possession of the land you had sworn with uplifted hand(C) to give them.(D)
16 “But they, our ancestors, became arrogant and stiff-necked,(E) and they did not obey your commands.(F) 17 They refused to listen and failed to remember(G) the miracles(H) you performed among them. They became stiff-necked(I) and in their rebellion appointed a leader in order to return to their slavery.(J) But you are a forgiving God,(K) gracious and compassionate,(L) slow to anger(M) and abounding in love.(N) Therefore you did not desert them,(O)
