12 For the inhabitant of [a]Maroth
Writhes (A)in waiting for good
Because a [b]calamity has come down from Yahweh
To the (B)gate of Jerusalem.
13 Harness the chariot to the team of horses,
O inhabitant of (C)Lachish—
She was the beginning of sin
To the daughter of Zion—
Because in you were found
The (D)transgressions of Israel.
14 Therefore you will give parting (E)gifts
On behalf of [c]Moresheth-gath;
The houses of [d](F)Achzib will become a (G)deception
To the kings of Israel.

waiting for relief,(A)
because disaster(B) has come from the Lord,
even to the gate of Jerusalem.
13 You who live in Lachish,(C)
harness fast horses to the chariot.
You are where the sin of Daughter Zion(D) began,
for the transgressions of Israel were found in you.
14 Therefore you will give parting gifts(E)
to Moresheth(F) Gath.
The town of Akzib[b](G) will prove deceptive(H)
to the kings of Israel.
