Peter’s Denial of Jesus^(A)

⁶⁹ Now Peter sat outside in the courtyard. And a girl came to him, saying, “You also were with Jesus of Galilee.”

⁷⁰ But he denied it before them all, saying, “I do not know what you are saying.”

⁷¹ Then when he went out onto the porch, another girl saw him and said to those who were there, “This man was also with Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁷² Again he denied with an oath, “I do not know the Man.”

⁷³ After a while those who stood by came to Peter and said, “Surely you also are one of them, for your accent betrays you.”

⁷⁴ Then he began to invoke a curse on himself and he swore, “I do not know the Man.”

Then immediately a rooster crowed. ⁷⁵ Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken, “Before a rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” Then he went out and wept bitterly.

⁵⁶ Then a servant girl saw him as he sat near the fire, and gazed at him, and said, “This man was with Him.”

⁵⁷ But he denied Him, saying, “Woman, I do not know Him.”

⁵⁸ A little later someone else saw him and said, “You also are one of them.”

Peter said, “Man, I am not!”

⁵⁹ About an hour later another man firmly declared, “Certainly, this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean.”

⁶⁰ Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are saying.” Immediately, while he was yet speaking, the rooster crowed. ⁶¹ The Lord turned and looked at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny Me three times.” ⁶² And Peter went outside and wept bitterly.

Peter’s Denial of Jesus^(A)

¹⁵ Simon Peter followed Jesus, and so did another disciple. That disciple was known to the high priest and went with Jesus into the courtyard of the high priest. ¹⁶ But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to the doorkeeper and brought Peter in.

¹⁷ Then the servant girl, being the doorkeeper, said to Peter, “Are you not also one of this Man’s disciples?”

He said, “I am not.”

¹⁸ Now the servants and officers stood there and warmed themselves, having made a fire of coals, for it was cold. Peter also stood with them and warmed himself.

Peter Denies Jesus Again^(A)

²⁵ Meanwhile Simon Peter was standing and warming himself. So they said to him, “Are you not also one of His disciples?”

He denied it and said, “I am not!”

²⁶ One of the servants of the high priest, being a relative of the man whose ear Peter cut off, said, “Did I not see you in the garden with Him?” ²⁷ Peter then denied it again, and immediately a rooster crowed.
