¹³“You’re the salt of the earth! But if the salt becomes tasteless, how is it going to get salty again? It’s no good for anything. You might as well throw it out and walk all over it.

¹⁴“You’re the light of the world! A city can’t be hidden if it’s on top of a hill.

Matthew 5:12-14

New International Version

¹²Rejoice and be glad,^(A) because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.^(B)

Salt and Light

¹³“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.^(C)

¹⁴“You are the light of the world.^(D) A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
