Matthew 4:3-5

³And the Tempter having come to him said, `If Son thou art of God -- speak that these stones may become loaves.'

⁴But he answering said, `It hath been written, Not upon bread alone doth man live, but upon every word coming forth from the mouth of God.'

⁵Then doth the Devil take him to the [holy] city, and doth set him on the pinnacle of the temple,

Matthew 4:3-5

New International Version

³The tempter^(A) came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God,^(B) tell these stones to become bread.”

⁴Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’^[a]”^(C)

⁵Then the devil took him to the holy city^(D) and had him stand on the highest point of the temple.
