59 Now (A)the chief Priests and the Elders, and all the whole Council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death.
60 But they found none, and though many false witnesses came, yet found they none: but at the last came two false witnesses,

- Matthew 26:58 The word here used, signifieth properly an open large room before an house, as we see in Kings’ palaces and noble men’s houses: we call it a court, for it is open to the air, and by a figure Synecdoche is taken for the house itself.

58 But Peter followed him at a distance, right up to the courtyard of the high priest.(A) He entered and sat down with the guards(B) to see the outcome.
59 The chief priests and the whole Sanhedrin(C) were looking for false evidence against Jesus so that they could put him to death. 60 But they did not find any, though many false witnesses(D) came forward.
