⁴ and they conspired to arrest Jesus in a treacherous way and kill him.^(A)

¹⁸ The chief priests and the scribes^(A) heard it and started looking for a way to kill him. For they were afraid^(B) of him, because the whole crowd was astonished by his teaching.

⁴⁷ Every day he was teaching^(A) in the temple. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people were looking for a way to kill^(B) him, ⁴⁸ but they could not find a way to do it, because all the people^(C) were captivated by what they heard.

The Identity of the Messiah

²⁵ Some of the people of Jerusalem^(A) were saying, “Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill?

³⁰ Then they tried to seize him. Yet no one laid a hand on him because his hour had not yet come.
