³⁸Listen carefully: your house is being left to you desolate [completely abandoned by God and destitute of His protection]!^(A)

³⁸Look, your house is left to you desolate.^(A)

²⁰“For in the book of Psalms it is written,

‘Let his place of residence become desolate,
And let there be no one to live in it’;

and [again],

‘Let another take his position as overseer.’^(A)

²⁰“For,” said Peter, “it is written in the Book of Psalms:

“‘May his place be deserted;
let there be no one to dwell in it,’^[a]^(A)

and,

“‘May another take his place of leadership.’^[b]^(B)
