35 (A) That's why you will be held guilty for the murder of every good person, beginning with the good man Abel. This also includes Barachiah's son Zechariah,[a] the man you murdered between the temple and the altar. 36 I can promise that you people living today will be punished for all these things!

- 23.35 Zechariah: Genesis is the first book in the Jewish Scriptures, and it tells that Abel was the first person to be murdered. Second Chronicles is the last book in the Jewish Scriptures, and the last murder that it tells about is that of Zechariah.

35 And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel(A) to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah,(B) whom you murdered between the temple and the altar.(C) 36 Truly I tell you, all this will come on this generation.(D)
37 “Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,(E) how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings,(F) and you were not willing.
