Matthew 21:9-11

⁹Some of the people were walking ahead of Jesus. Others were walking behind him. All the people were shouting,

“Praise^[a] to the Son of David!
God bless the One who comes in the name of the Lord! Psalm 118:26
Praise to God in heaven!”

¹⁰Then Jesus went into Jerusalem. The city was filled with excitement. The people asked, “Who is this man?”

¹¹The crowd answered, “This man is Jesus. He is the prophet from the town of Nazareth in Galilee.”

21:9, 15 Praise Literally, “Hosanna,” a Hebrew word used at first in praying to God for help. At this time it was probably a shout of joy used in praising God or his Messiah.

Matthew 21:9-11

New International Version

⁹The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted,

“Hosanna^[a] to the Son of David!”^(A)

“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!”^[b]^(B)

“Hosanna^[c] in the highest heaven!”^(C)

¹⁰When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred and asked, “Who is this?”

¹¹The crowds answered, “This is Jesus, the prophet^(D) from Nazareth in Galilee.”
