Matthew 21:16-18

¹⁶They asked Jesus, “Do you hear what these children are saying?”

He answered, “Yes. The Scriptures say, ‘You have taught children and babies to give praise.’^[a] Have you not read that Scripture?”

¹⁷Then Jesus left them and went out of the city to Bethany, where he spent the night.

¹⁸Early the next morning, Jesus was going back to the city. He was very hungry.

¹⁶“Do you hear what these children are saying?” they asked him.

“Yes,” replied Jesus, “have you never read,

“‘From the lips of children and infants
you, Lord, have called forth your praise’^[a]?”^(A)

¹⁷And he left them and went out of the city to Bethany,^(B) where he spent the night.

¹⁸Early in the morning, as Jesus was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.
