16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”(A)
17 Jesus responded, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah,[a](B) because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but my Father in heaven.(C) 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church,(D) and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
