³⁵ so that what was spoken through the prophet might be fulfilled:

²³ He told them, “You will indeed drink my cup,^[a] but to sit at my right and left is not mine to give; instead, it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”^(A)

⁹ But as it is written,

³ For we who have believed enter the rest, in keeping with what^[a] he has said,

even though his works have been finished since the foundation of the world.

²⁶ Otherwise, he would have had to suffer many times since the foundation of the world. But now he has appeared one time, at the end of the ages,^(A) for the removal of sin by the sacrifice of himself.^(B)

¹⁶ But they now desire a better place—a heavenly one. Therefore, God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.^(A)

⁸ All those who live on the earth will worship it, everyone whose name was not written from the foundation of the world in the book^[a] of life^(A) of the Lamb who was slaughtered.^[b](B)

⁸ The beast that you saw was, and is not, and is about to come up from the abyss^(A) and go to destruction.^(B) Those who live on the earth whose names have not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world^(C) will be astonished when they see the beast that was, and is not, and is to come.^(D)
