16 Ac wedi i’r Phariseaid a’r Sadwceaid ddyfod ato, a’i demtio, hwy a atolygasant iddo ddangos iddynt arwydd o’r nef. 2 Ac efe a atebodd ac a ddywedodd wrthynt, Pan fyddo’r hwyr, y dywedwch, Tywydd teg; canys y mae’r wybr yn goch. 3 A’r bore, Heddiw drycin; canys y mae’r wybr yn goch ac yn bruddaidd. O ragrithwyr, chwi a fedrwch ddeall wyneb yr wybren; ac oni fedrwch arwyddion yr amserau? 4 Y mae cenhedlaeth ddrwg a godinebus yn ceisio arwydd; ac arwydd nis rhoddir iddi, ond arwydd y proffwyd Jonas. Ac efe a’u gadawodd hwynt, ac a aeth ymaith. 5 Ac wedi dyfod ei ddisgyblion ef i’r lan arall, hwy a ollyngasent dros gof gymryd bara ganddynt.
6 A’r Iesu a ddywedodd wrthynt, Edrychwch ac ymogelwch rhag surdoes y Phariseaid a’r Sadwceaid. 7 A hwy a ymresymasant yn eu plith eu hunain, gan ddywedyd, Hyn sydd am na chymerasom fara gennym. 8 A’r Iesu yn gwybod, a ddywedodd wrthynt, Chwychwi o ychydig ffydd, paham yr ydych yn ymresymu yn eich plith eich hunain, am na chymerasoch fara gyda chwi? 9 Onid ydych chwi yn deall eto, nac yn cofio pum torth y pum mil, a pha sawl basgedaid a gymerasoch i fyny? 10 Na saith dorth y pedair mil, a pha sawl cawellaid a gymerasoch i fyny? 11 Pa fodd nad ydych yn deall, nad am fara y dywedais wrthych, ar ymogelyd rhag surdoes y Phariseaid a’r Sadwceaid? 12 Yna y deallasant na ddywedasai efe am ymogelyd rhag surdoes bara, ond rhag athrawiaeth y Phariseaid a’r Sadwceaid.
13 Ac wedi dyfod yr Iesu i dueddau Cesarea Philipi, efe a ofynnodd i’w ddisgyblion, gan ddywedyd, Pwy y mae dynion yn dywedyd fy mod i, Mab y dyn? 14 A hwy a ddywedasant, Rhai, mai Ioan Fedyddiwr, a rhai, mai Eleias, ac eraill, mai Jeremeias, neu un o’r proffwydi. 15 Efe a ddywedodd wrthynt, Ond pwy meddwch chwi ydwyf fi? 16 A Simon Pedr a atebodd ac a ddywedodd, Ti yw’r Crist, Mab y Duw byw. 17 A’r Iesu gan ateb a ddywedodd wrtho, Gwyn dy fyd di, Simon mab Jona: canys nid cig a gwaed a ddatguddiodd hyn i ti, ond fy Nhad yr hwn sydd yn y nefoedd. 18 Ac yr ydwyf finnau yn dywedyd i ti, mai ti yw Pedr, ac ar y graig hon yr adeiladaf fy eglwys; a phyrth uffern nis gorchfygant hi. 19 A rhoddaf i ti agoriadau teyrnas nefoedd: a pha beth bynnag a rwymech ar y ddaear, a fydd rhwymedig yn y nefoedd; a pha beth bynnag a ryddhaech ar y ddaear, a fydd wedi ei ryddhau yn y nefoedd. 20 Yna y gorchmynnodd efe i’w ddisgyblion, na ddywedent i neb mai efe oedd Iesu Grist.
21 O hynny allan y dechreuodd yr Iesu ddangos i’w ddisgyblion fod yn rhaid iddo fyned i Jerwsalem, a dioddef llawer gan yr henuriaid, a’r archoffeiriaid, a’r ysgrifenyddion, a’i ladd, a chyfodi y trydydd dydd. 22 A Phedr, wedi ei gymryd ef ato, a ddechreuodd ei geryddu ef, gan ddywedyd, Arglwydd, trugarha wrthyt dy hun; ni bydd hyn i ti. 23 Ac efe a drodd, ac a ddywedodd wrth Pedr, Dos yn fy ôl i, Satan: rhwystr ydwyt ti i mi: am nad ydwyt yn synied y pethau sydd o Dduw, ond y pethau sydd o ddynion.
24 Yna y dywedodd yr Iesu wrth ei ddisgyblion, Os myn neb ddyfod ar fy ôl i, ymwaded ag ef ei hun, a chyfoded ei groes, a chanlyned fi. 25 Canys pwy bynnag a ewyllysio gadw ei fywyd, a’i cyll: a phwy bynnag a gollo ei fywyd o’m plegid i, a’i caiff. 26 Canys pa lesâd i ddyn, os ennill efe yr holl fyd, a cholli ei enaid ei hun? neu pa beth a rydd dyn yn gyfnewid am ei enaid? 27 Canys Mab y dyn a ddaw yng ngogoniant ei Dad gyda’i angylion; ac yna y rhydd efe i bawb yn ôl ei weithred. 28 Yn wir y dywedaf wrthych, Y mae rhai o’r sawl sydd yn sefyll yma, a’r ni phrofant angau, hyd oni welont Fab y dyn yn dyfod yn ei frenhiniaeth.

The Demand for a Sign(A)
16 The Pharisees and Sadducees(B) came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.(C)
2 He replied, “When evening comes, you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red,’ 3 and in the morning, ‘Today it will be stormy, for the sky is red and overcast.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.[a](D) 4 A wicked and adulterous generation looks for a sign, but none will be given it except the sign of Jonah.”(E) Jesus then left them and went away.
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6 “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.”(F)
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.”
8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith,(G) why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(H) 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered?(I) 11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” 12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.(J)
Peter Declares That Jesus Is the Messiah(K)
13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”
14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist;(L) others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”(M)
15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”
16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”(N)
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood,(O) but by my Father in heaven.(P) 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,[b](Q) and on this rock I will build my church,(R) and the gates of Hades[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys(S) of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[e] loosed in heaven.”(T) 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone(U) that he was the Messiah.
Jesus Predicts His Death(V)
21 From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem(W) and suffer many things(X) at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law,(Y) and that he must be killed(Z) and on the third day(AA) be raised to life.(AB)
22 Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”
23 Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan!(AC) You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.(AD) 25 For whoever wants to save their life[f] will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.(AE) 26 What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? 27 For the Son of Man(AF) is going to come(AG) in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.(AH)
28 “Truly I tell you, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”
