3 Bere a Yesu ne n’awofo wɔ Nasaret no, Yohane Osuboni bɛkaa asɛm wɔ Yudea sare so se, 2 “Monsakra mo su; momfa mo ho mma Onyankopɔn, na ɔsoro ahenni no abɛn.” 3 Yohane ne nea odiyifo Yesaia kaa ne ho asɛm se, “Obi nne reteɛm se, ‘Mommɔ kwan mma Awurade; momma n’atempɔn nteɛ!’ “
4 Saa bere no, na Yohane fura yoma ho nhwi ntama, bɔ aboa nhoma abɔso. Na n’aduan yɛ mmoadabi ne ɛwo. 5 Yerusalemfo ne Yudeafo ne nnipa a wɔte Asubɔnten Yordan ho no nyinaa kɔɔ ne nkyɛn wɔ sare no so hɔ kotiee asɛm no bi. 6 Wɔkaa wɔn bɔne ma ɔbɔɔ wɔn asu wɔ Asubɔnten Yordan mu.
7 Yohane hui sɛ Farisifo ne Sadukifo pii reba ne nkyɛn ma wɔabɔ wɔn asu no, ɔka kyerɛɛ wɔn se,
“Awɔ mma! Hena na ɔka kyerɛɛ mo se munguan mfi Onyankopɔn abufuw a ɛreba no ano? 8 Ansa na wɔbɛbɔ mo asu no, ɛsɛ sɛ mosakra mo su na mubu ɔbra pa. 9 Munsusuw sɛ moyɛ Abraham asefo nti, mubetumi aguan afi asotwe a ɛbɛba mo so no ho. Merema mo ate ase sɛ Onyankopɔn betumi ama abo a ɛwɔ ha yi adan Abraham asefo.
10 “Onyankopɔn de n’abonnua ato dua biara a ɛnsow aba pa ntini ho sɛ ɔde betwa, na ɔde agu gya mu ahyew no.
11 “Me de, mede nsu na ɛrebɔ wɔn a wɔasakra wɔn su no asu. Nanso nea odi m’akyi reba no de, ɔso sen me, a ne mpaboa mpo, mensɛ sɛ mikita. Ɔno de, sɛ ɔba a, ɔde Honhom Kronkron ne ogya na ɛbɛbɔ mo asu. 12 Obehuhuw aburow no so ayiyi mu aba pa no afi ntɛtɛ no mu, na ɔde aba pa no akosie, na ɔde ogya a ennum da ahyew ntɛtɛ no pasaa.”

13 Yesu tee Yohane Osuboni nka no, ofi Galilea baa Asubɔnten Yordan ho sɛ Yohane mmɔ no asu. 14 Yohane hui sɛ ɔmfata sɛ ɔbɔ Yesu asu. Eyi nti, ɔkae se, “Wo na ɛsɛ sɛ wobɔ me asu, na ɛnyɛ me.”
15 Ɛnna Yesu nso ka kyerɛɛ no se, “Etwa ara na etwa sɛ wobɔ me asu sɛnea ɛbɛyɛ a nea Onyankopɔn ahyɛ ato hɔ no bɛba mu.” Yesu asɛm a ɔkae no nti, Yohane bɔɔ no asu.
16 Yohane asubɔ no akyi a ofi nsu no mu baa koko so pɛ, ɔsoro bue maa no. Ohuu Onyankopɔn Honhom sɛ ɛresian ba no so sɛ aborɔnoma. 17 Ɛhɔ ara, nne bi fi soro kae se, “Oyi ne me dɔ Ba a ɔsɔ m’ani.”

John the Baptist Prepares the Way(A)
3 In those days John the Baptist(B) came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea 2 and saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven(C) has come near.” 3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah:
“A voice of one calling in the wilderness,
‘Prepare the way for the Lord,
make straight paths for him.’”[a](D)
4 John’s(E) clothes were made of camel’s hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist.(F) His food was locusts(G) and wild honey. 5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan. 6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized(H) by him in the Jordan River.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: “You brood of vipers!(I) Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?(J) 8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.(K) 9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’(L) I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham. 10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.(M)
11 “I baptize you with[b] water for repentance.(N) But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with[c] the Holy Spirit(O) and fire.(P) 12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”(Q)
The Baptism of Jesus(R)
13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.(S) 14 But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”
15 Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.
16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened,(T) and he saw the Spirit of God(U) descending like a dove and alighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven(V) said, “This is my Son,(W) whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”(X)

6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:
9 And think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
10 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: therefore every tree which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.
