⁶ And He was amazed^(A) at their unbelief.^(B)

Commissioning the Twelve

Now He was going around the villages in a circuit, teaching.^{(C) 7} He^(D) summoned^(E) the Twelve^(F) and began to send^(G) them out in pairs and gave them authority over unclean^(H) spirits.^{(I) 8} He instructed them to take nothing for the road except a walking stick: no bread, no traveling bag,^(J) no money in their belts.

³ “Take nothing for the road,”^(A) He told them, “no walking stick,^(B) no traveling bag, no bread, no money; and don’t take an extra shirt. ⁴ Whatever house you enter, stay there and leave from there. ⁵ If they do not welcome you, when you leave that town, shake off the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.”^(C)

⁴ Don’t carry a money-bag,^(A) traveling bag,^(B) or sandals;^(C) don’t greet anyone along the road. ⁵ Whatever house you enter, first say, ‘Peace^(D) to this household.’ ⁶ If a son of peace^[a] is there, your peace^(E) will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you. ⁷ Remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they offer, for the worker is worthy of his wages.^(F) Don’t be moving from house to house. ⁸ When you enter any town, and they welcome you, eat the things set before you.^{(G) 9} Heal the sick^(H) who are there, and tell them, ‘The kingdom of God^(I) has come near^(J) you.’ ¹⁰ When you enter any town, and they don’t welcome you, go out into its streets and say, ¹¹ ‘We are wiping off as a witness against you^(K) even the dust of your town that clings to our feet. Know this for certain: The kingdom of God has come near.’ ¹² I tell you, on that day^(L) it will be more tolerable for Sodom^(M) than for that town.^(N)
