Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection

^31 (A)And he began to teach them that ^(B)the Son of Man must ^(C)suffer many things and ^(D)be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and ^(E)after three days rise again. ³² And he said this ^(F)plainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. ³³ But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, ^(G)“Get behind me, Satan! For you ^(H)are not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.”

³⁴ And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him ^(I)deny himself and ^(J)take up his cross and follow me. ³⁵ For ^(K)whoever would save his life^[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake ^(L)and the gospel's will save it. ^36 (M)For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? ³⁷ For ^(N)what can a man give in return for his soul? ³⁸ For ^(O)whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this ^(P)adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed ^(Q)when he comes in the glory of his Father with ^(R)the holy angels.”

9 And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not ^(S)taste death ^(T)until they see the kingdom of God after it has come ^(U)with power.”

Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus

²³ And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him ^(F)deny himself and ^(G)take up his cross ^(H)daily and follow me. ²⁴ For ^(I)whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. ^25 (J)For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? ²⁶ For ^(K)whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed ^(L)when he comes in ^(M)his glory and the glory of the Father and of ^(N)the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you truly, there are some standing here who will not ^(O)taste death ^(P)until they see the kingdom of God.”

¹² But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but ^(A)did to him whatever they pleased. ^(B)So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.”

Jesus Again Foretells Death, Resurrection

^22 (A)As they were gathering^[a] in Galilee, Jesus said to them, “The Son of Man is about to be delivered into the hands of men, ²³ and they will kill him, and he will be raised on ^(B)the third day.” And they were greatly distressed.

Jesus Foretells His Death a Third Time

^17 (A)And as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, ¹⁸ “See, ^(B)we are going up to Jerusalem. And the Son of Man will be delivered over to the chief priests and scribes, and they will ^(C)condemn him to death ¹⁹ and ^(D)deliver him over to the Gentiles ^(E)to be mocked and flogged and ^(F)crucified, and he will be raised on ^(G)the third day.”
