When they come from the marketplace, they do not eat unless they wash.[a] And there are many other traditions they adhere to, such as the washing[b] of cups, pitchers, kettles, and dining couches.[c] The Pharisees and the experts in the law asked Jesus, “Why do your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders? Instead they eat bread with unclean hands.”
