Walking on the Water^(A)

⁴⁵ Immediately He compelled His disciples to get into the boat and to go before Him to the other side, to Bethsaida, while He sent the crowd away. ⁴⁶ When He had sent them away, He departed to a mountain to pray.

⁴⁷ When evening came, the boat was in the midst of the sea. And He was alone on the land. ⁴⁸ He saw them straining at rowing, for the wind was against them. About the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea and would have passed by them. ⁴⁹ But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out. ⁵⁰ For they all saw Him and were troubled.

Immediately He spoke to them and said, “Be of good cheer, it is I. Do not be afraid.” ⁵¹ Then He went up to them in the boat and the wind ceased. They were greatly astonished in themselves beyond measure, and wondered. ⁵² For they had not comprehended the miracle of the loaves, for their hearts were hardened.

¹⁵ Therefore, knowing that they would come and take Him by force to make Him king, Jesus departed again to a mountain by Himself alone.

Walking on the Water^(A)

¹⁶ Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea. ¹⁷ They got into a boat and went across the sea toward Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them. ¹⁸ The sea was stirred up because a strong wind was blowing. ¹⁹ So when they had rowed about three or four miles,^[a] they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat. And they were afraid. ²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I. Do not be afraid.” ²¹ Then they gladly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.
