²² One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus,^(A) came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet^{(B) 23} and kept begging Him, “My little daughter is at death’s door.^[a] Come and lay Your hands on^(C) her so she can get well^(D) and live.”

²⁴ So Jesus went with him, and a large crowd was following and pressing against Him. ²⁵ A woman suffering from bleeding^(E) for 12 years ²⁶ had endured^(F) much under many doctors.^(G) She had spent everything she had and was not helped at all. On the contrary, she became worse. ²⁷ Having heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched^(H) His robe.^{(I) 28} For she said, “If I can just touch His robes, I’ll be made well!”^{(J) 29} Instantly her flow of blood ceased, and she sensed in her body that she was cured^(K) of her affliction.

³⁰ At once Jesus realized in Himself that power^(L) had gone out from Him. He turned around in the crowd^(M) and said, “Who touched My robes?”^(N)

³¹ His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing against You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’”

³² So He was looking around to see who had done this. ³³ Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came with fear and trembling, fell down^(O) before Him, and told Him the whole truth.^{(P) 34} “Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith^(Q) has made you well.^[b](R) Go in peace and be free^[c](S) from your affliction.”^(T)

³⁵ While He was still speaking, people came from the synagogue leader’s house and said, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher^(U) anymore?”

³⁶ But when Jesus overheard what was said, He told the synagogue leader, “Don’t be afraid.^(V) Only believe.” ³⁷ He did not let anyone accompany Him except Peter,^(W) James,^(X) and John,^(Y) James’s brother. ³⁸ They came to the leader’s house, and He saw a commotion—people weeping and wailing loudly. ³⁹ He went in and said to them, “Why are you making a commotion and weeping?^(Z) The child^(AA) is not dead but asleep.”^(AB)

⁴⁰ They started laughing at Him, but He put them all outside. He took the child’s father,^(AC) mother, and those who were with Him, and entered the place where the child was. ⁴¹ Then He took the child^(AD) by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!”^[d] (which is translated, “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”^(AE)). ⁴² Immediately the girl got up^(AF) and began to walk.^(AG) (She was 12 years old.) At this they were utterly astounded.^{(AH) 43} Then He gave them strict orders that no one should know about this^(AI) and said that she should be given something to eat.

⁴¹ Just then, a man named Jairus came. He was a leader of the synagogue.^(A) He fell down at Jesus’ feet and pleaded with Him to come to his house, ⁴² because he had an only daughter^(B) about 12 years old, and she was at death’s door.^[a]

While He was going, the crowds were nearly crushing Him.^{(C) 43} A woman suffering from bleeding^(D) for 12 years,^(E) who had spent all she had on doctors^[b] yet could not be healed by any, ⁴⁴ approached from behind and touched the tassel of His robe.^(F) Instantly her bleeding stopped.

⁴⁵ “Who touched Me?” Jesus asked.

When they all denied it, Peter^[c] said, “Master,^(G) the crowds are hemming You in and pressing against You.”^[d]

⁴⁶ “Someone did touch Me,” said Jesus. “I know that power has gone out from Me.”^{(H) 47} When the woman saw that she was discovered,^[e] she came trembling and fell down before Him. In the presence of all the people, she declared the reason she had touched Him and how she was instantly cured. ⁴⁸ “Daughter,” He said to her, “your faith has made you well.^[f] Go in peace.”^(I)

⁴⁹ While He was still speaking,^(J) someone came from the synagogue leader’s house, saying, “Your daughter is dead. Don’t bother^(K) the Teacher^(L) anymore.”

⁵⁰ When Jesus heard it, He answered him, “Don’t be afraid. Only believe, and she will be made well.” ⁵¹ After He came to the house, He let no one enter with Him except Peter, John, James,^(M) and the child’s father and mother. ⁵² Everyone was crying^(N) and mourning for her.^(O) But He said, “Stop crying, for she is not dead but asleep.”^(P)

⁵³ They started laughing at Him, because they knew she was dead. ⁵⁴ So He^[g] took her by the hand^(Q) and called out, “Child, get up!”^{(R) 55} Her spirit returned,^(S) and she got up at once. Then He gave orders that she be given something to eat. ⁵⁶ Her parents were astounded, but He instructed them to tell no one what had happened.^(T)
